Our Ptarmigan hunts take place in the beautiful MClaren River Valley
in the Interior of Alaska, and are unique in many aspects. The
hunter who
chooses
this hunt will be treated to a real old Alaskan style of
experience. Visually they will be treated to breath taking vistas
of mountains, alpine tundra, glaciers, and rushing rivers. Hunters
have the possibility of photographing grizzle bears, moose, caribou
as well as an assortment of small game and birds.
Another unique feature about this concession is that all three
species of Ptarmigan, Willow, Rock and Whitetailed ptarmigan.
Willows are found in the willows on the river flats, whitetails in
the foothills and the rocks in the shale rocks of the mountains.
Ptarmigan can be shot in all phases of there plumage, summer
(September hunts), all the way to the pure white winter plumage
(November hunts).
The McLaren river bottom is pocked with small pothole lakes that
provide food and resting
cover for migrating geese, ducks and swans. During the early fall
ducks can be shot in the early morning hours followed by ptarmigan
in the afternoon, evening.
As if the hunting isn't enough, the accommodations are unparalleled
for a concession this remote. The hunter will be treated with
good food, hot showers and satellite TV. while relaxing in the
original Old Alaskan McLaren River Lodge.
